Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

The sorority was established January 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is the first Greek Letter sorority for African-American women. It is recognized as a global organization with over 283,000 collegiate members and alumnae, consisting of 993 chapters in 42 states, US Virgin Island, the Bahamas, Germany, Liberia, South Korea, Japan, Canada, South Africa, and the Middle East. Alpha Kappa Alpha’s mission is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and  ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and  women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of “Service to All Mankind".
